The 28 year old Swede, is one of the most unique and talented strikers in the world today. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has played for many European clubs, some which are the best in the world. He is also an admired figure for the Swedish national team.
Ibrahimovic started his career at Swedish team Malmo FF. He moved up to the senior side in 1999, in his first season it didn’t start to well, as his team finished 13th and were subsequently relegated. However, they were promoted the next season and Ibrahimovic was starting to impress and increase interest from the likes of Arsenal and Ajax. He was soon to be purchased by Ajax for €7.8million in July 2001.
In his first season at Ajax, they went on to win the league title. Ibrahimovic went on to make a bigger impact in his second season, scoring 2 goals on his Champions League debut and scored many key league goals but unfortunately couldn’t win the league again. In his final season at Ajax, he scored against NAC and was one of the best goals of the year as he took the ball past many players before slotting it into an empty net. Ajax didn’t perform well in his last season in Europe, but did manage to win the league before he left for his next club, Juventus.
The move from Ajax to Juventus was thought to be a fee around €16million. He scored 16 goals in his first season and Juventus went on to win the league title. His second season wasn’t as successful as he scored less goals, but created more goals instead. He was often criticised for his performances in big matches in the Champions League. Juventus did go on to win the league once again, but due to the match fixing scandal, both of his medals were scrapped. Juventus were then relegated to Serie B because of the scandal and were deducted points too so Zlatan was keen to move away.
His next move was to Italian rivals Inter Milan, who were credited with the league titles the previous two years. He was bought for the fee of €24.8million. Zlatan was once again impressive as he ended his first season with 15 goals, but more importantly, he was constantly involved in all of their build up play. They won the Serie A title in his first season, with 97 points, a league record. In his next season, he scored another unique and brilliant goal which is another highly rated goal, against Bologna. He hit the ball with his heel to place it in the top corner. He was the top goal scorer this season, with 25 goals.
Ibrahimovic then made his big money move to Barcelona as they paid €46million as well as Samuel Eto’o who was worth around €20million. Barcelona made 29 appearances in his first and only season, scoring 16 goals. His team Barcelona broke the league record for amount of points, as they achieved 99 points. Ibrahimovic didn’t impress too much in this season, as players like Bojan deserved to be in the first team more than him. With the signing of David Villa, Ibrahimovic was considered as second choice, and therefore moved to Milan on loan for one season, with it likely to long term. Ibrahimovic will wear number 11 and has now played for Italian’s three biggest clubs, which are all fierce rivals.
